Our focus

Writing

To write is to pay witness, to enter the conversation, to wonder, to create community across time and space. How beautiful the world is!

“Compassionate climate action is born out of this careful looking, for we come upon the profound metaphysical realization that another’s suffering is our suffering, and that we cannot be fully healthy and at peace if the world is not so.”

“Over and over, my mind cannot separate this redwood valley from heaven, this river from the eternal flow of the Universe, and my life from the revolution that is already underway.”

“Rarely have I seen men more at peace with watching the world than when they cluster around the cliffs of a surfbreak or the gates of a skate park. It’s in these moments, as someone else is flying down the face of the ocean’s breathing, when your joy is my joy, when your enlightenment is mine, that we can see things as they truly are.”

JP once told me that his image for the meaning of life is me staring out a window. Such a simple act, so deceptively passive, the universe looking at itself, if only to look. As my grandma grew older, my dad would take her on a drive through the city with no destination. Each time she would say, “Mt. Olympus looks beautiful today, doesn’t it?”

As Observers, Substack

“We were eaten by the night. We were the moon and stars that filtered through the canopy. We were the fish who live in between moments. We were the air that we carried on our back. This is what humans are meant to do: to kneel before the edge, to hold each other, and to soak our souls in wonder until we dissolve.”

A cold prayer, Substack
